Why Carton Squaring Matters for Crash Lock Bottom Cartons with Short Crease Lines

Crash lock bottom cartons are widely used across food, beverage, pharmaceutical, e-commerce, and consumer goods packaging. Their ability to provide fast and convenient box erection makes them a popular choice for high-volume packaging operations.

However, not all crash lock bottom cartons present the same production requirements.

When a carton design includes short crease lines, there is less opportunity for correction during the conveying and compression stages. Even minor carton movement can influence carton squareness, making accurate glue flap alignment more difficult to maintain. For converters, this can increase the importance of stable carton transport and precise carton positioning throughout production.

A recent customer-site production run demonstrated this challenge using a crash lock bottom carton with short crease lines. The cartons were produced on a DGM Megafold 1450SL folder gluer equipped with an integrated squaring device in the conveyor section.

Before cartons enter the compression section, the squaring device continuously guides each carton into position, helping maintain carton alignment and supporting accurate glue joint positioning. By ensuring cartons remain properly squared during transport, the system contributes to more consistent box forming and stable production performance.

The Megafold 1450SL is designed to support a wide range of folding carton applications, from standard straight line boxes to more demanding crash lock bottom cartons and specialty carton structures. Combining precise folding control, reliable carton transport, and efficient compression performance, the machine helps converters maintain production consistency across varying carton designs.

As packaging manufacturers continue to process increasingly diverse carton styles, solutions that improve carton alignment and production stability play an important role in maintaining quality and efficiency. Applications such as this demonstrate how integrated squaring technology can support reliable folding carton production, even when handling more challenging carton geometries.
